Ruth Philo
Painter
Ruth's paintings explore abstraction, through colour, light and surface, often emerging from encounters with place and walking. Her work combines conscious and unconscious elements, mixing the internal with the external to convey a sensory experience. The scale is often intimate, the surface of the paintings pared down, with just enough in them to communicate on both a physical and emotional level.
Based in Ballingdon, Sudbury, Suffolk, Ruth regularly exhibits in the UK and abroad. She has an MA in Fine Art, (Norwich University of the Arts) and BA History of Art, (University of Warwick), she is a member of Contemporary British Painting and also curates shows. Her work has been selected for the Jerwood Drawing Prize, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, British Council Exhibitions in Poland and Romania as well as Contemporary British Painting shows in China and the US.
