Lorna Hoey
Acrylic Painting and Pastels

Lorna Hoey mainly works in pastels, inks and acrylics. She isn’t interested in simply making ‘a pretty picture’. Her aim is to capture the light that filters through branches, or glitters across the waters of the River Stour, near where she lives in the Stour Valley. She draws her inspiration from daily walks across Sudbury’s water meadows, and enjoys the challenge of depicting very early morning, or dusk, in her paintings.

The wide skies of East Anglia provide much material for experimentation, and in her most recent work she has used oil pastel and ink to produce a wax-resist effect in some of her smaller pieces, which are based on the reedbeds and grassy banks of the river.
